Yesterday, French defender Raphaƫl Varane agreed to sign a contract extension with Spanish capital football club Real Madrid, the club announced via their official website. The new contract, scheduled to be signed today, would run until June 2022.
Now-24-year-old Varane joined Los Blancos from French club RC Lens in 2011. After arriving at Santiago Bernabeu at age 18, Varane has featured in 196 matches for the club.
Since Varane joined, the French international has won thirteen trophies including three UEFA Champions League titles, three UEFA Super Cups, two LaLiga titles, and two FIFA Club World Cups.
Per the previous contract, Varane was tied to Real Madrid until June 2020. Earlier, Varane’s compatriot Karim Benzema, Brazilian defender Marcelo, and Spanish midfielder Isco and his compatriot Dani Carvajal, signed contract extensions with Madrid. Except for Benzema’s, their contracts run until June 2022. Benzema’s extension runs until June 2021.
